Merriam-Webster dictionary defines building as an act or process of making structures by putting together materials. We can therefore say building a Godly home is an act or process of making homes by putting together materials.
Acts are the steps and actions you take toward achieving a goal: to every action there's a reaction, and what you sow is what you reap, this rule is also applicable to marriage, the actions and steps you take to get married will determine your destination, that is your goal.
Materials are the contents or substance of which something is composed. This indicates that there are some qualities your home is expected to have as a Christian, we should be the model that people of the world are looking up to. 1st Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. (1 Corinthians 11:1 KJV)
Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great. (Luke 6:47-49 KJV)
Let me now say that acts are the action you take to achieve a Godly home and a beautiful marriage, this will be very useful to the single and could also be applicable to those who got married for wrong reasons, there's room for amendments and repentance in the kingdom. There are so many points to be mentioned here but I will give just 5 very important ones.
YOUR ACTIONS:
1. Do not marry for the wrong reasons: all these are important when it comes to choosing a life partner, but if it become the only reason for making a life commitment then there's trouble.
i. Money
II. Fame
iii. Outward appearance
iv. Sex
v. Tribe
2. Do not be unequally yoke with an unbeliever: if you marry an unbeliever, the devil will be your father in-law. Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? (2 Corinthians 6:14 KJV)
3. Do not marry someone you don't love, you are going to be frustrated. Marriage is a life long commitment and you need to have a very deep affection for someone to accept their flaws. And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her. (Genesis 29:20 KJV) read from 29-35
4. Be sure God is leading you: don't be lead by your flesh and selfish ambition
5. Maturity: marriage is not for babies but matured man and woman. If love is blind, marriage is an eye opener, you should be ready to assume the responsibility f being a father/ mother and wife/husband. There are some things you are expected to have before getting married eg, accommodation and means of livelihood no matter how little. The same thing applicable to the ladies, don't be a liability, no man wants that anymore, check out this quality in Rebecca, I wonder where Leah was when her younger sister was with the sheep. Yoruba will say ori irin Loore wa, you can stay in one spot and expect to meet varieties of men from which you can make a choice, if you are confined to a spot or routine you will be like a beggar without choice.
And while he yet spake with them, Rachel came with her father's sheep: for she kept them. And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother's brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother's brother. And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept. And Jacob told Rachel that he was her father's brother, and that he was Rebekah's son: and she ran and told her father. And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her. (Genesis 29:9-12, 20 KJV)
Now lets talk about the expected materials, the spices, the effort you need to put in your marriage to make it heaven on earth.
1. Communication: a closed mouth is a closed destiny, you will introduce cankerworms that will be quietly eating up your marriage if you introduce malice. Learn to express yourself, one of the major problem with African women especially, very good in dying in silence.
2. prayer: family that prays together stays together, you can achieve wonders and control what goes in and comes out of your marriage on your knee.
3. Be productive and improve yourself on a daily basis: don't be stagnant because you are married, especially for the women or else you will widened the gap between the two of you and you will become incompatible. As a man you should also be able to provide for your family, don't be an infidel, you can't control a woman you can cater for.
4. Do not underestimate the power of sex.
The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency. (1 Corinthians 7:4, 5 KJV)
5. Men are moved by what they see and women by what the hear.
6. The principle of love and submission
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband. (Ephesians 5:22-25, 27-33 KJV)
